The School offers high-quality teacher preparation programs in more than 30 subject areas and at various levels. Considered some of the best in the nation, these programs are preparing future educators to meet the challenges of 21st-century classrooms. The School is also committed to sharing resources to provide support and professional development for PK-12 educators and our partner teachers.

PATHWAYS TO LICENSURE

EDUCATOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS

Educator preparation programs emphasize academic rigor, a strong conceptual foundation, multicultural/global competence, and extensive supervised experiences in the field.

ACADEMIC ADVISING

All current and prospective students are assigned to a professional advisor with Education Academic Services (EAS) or the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment and Retention (OURR).

STUDENT TESTING AND ASSESSMENT

Examples include a Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA), completing a Foundations of Reading Test in Wisconsin (https://www.wi.nesinc.com/) and other Academic Tests.

FIELD WORK / STUDENT TEACHING

In Wisconsin State, all teacher education students are required to complete at least one pre-student teaching practicum and at least one full semester of student teaching. Most programs require students to complete additional field experiences.

EDUCATOR LICENSING

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) utilizes an electronic licensing application system. Paper applications are no longer accepted. Please refer to the DPI website for information related to this process.
