The College Access Program (CAP) is a three-week pre-college program that is open to first generation, high school college-bound students, and/or underrepresented students from low-income families. Participants will live on campus and take classes to enrich their skills in math, writing, and test-taking strategies.
Students will leave the program with a wealth of knowledge from a world-class research institution and develop a life-long network of supportive staff and faculty members from UW–Madison. The 2019 CAP program will run from July 7 – July 27.

During CAP, you will:
- Learn about UW–Madison
- Get a head start on preparing for college
- Practice the problem-solving skills you will need to succeed in college
- Work with college instructors on projects that will help develop your writing skills
- Learn how math and science are used to solve real–world problems
- Participate in workshops relating to scholarships, college admission requirements, financial aid, and cultural activities
- Experience living in student residence halls
Students must be completing their freshman or sophomore year in high school when applying, and will attend the program over the summer before their sophomore or junior year. Students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and completed course work which will prepare them for college.
